The essentials

Brief history of this magnificent MK1 Jaguar as documented on the Heritage Certificate the car was prepared for a Mr Shaun Baker whom the second previous owner purchased the car from and was originally supplied to Frank Leurs and Co, London EC4 the original dealer R P Powell Motors who were very well known for race preparation and racing MK1 Saloons.

Although the original colour was Cornish Grey when it was purchased by Lady Cheetham’s brother Humphrey it was pre-painted to his favourite colour British Racing Green the colour the car has retained.

At the time Humphrey was in the army and only used the car when he was on leave. When he left the army and returned home, he only used the car for a short period of time as he unfortunately fell ill and passed away. Lady Cheetham retained the car for sentimental attachment. She was a close neighbour to Mr Duncan Hamilton who looked after the car and on odd occasions gave it exercise as she used it very little.

All the information has been acquired from Shaun Baker who worked on a casual basis at Hamilton’s he says that there was talk that the car had in fact been hill climbed on one occasion by Hamilton. When the car was disposed of by Lady Cheetham it was purchased by Mr Shaun Baker he then sold the car to Mr Wilkinson of M&C Wilkinson Jaguar Spares who owned the car for many years then selling through Sayer Selection to the current owner in July 2018.

The car was stripped to bare metal and re painted in Green the Red leather interior was then replaced by the factory specified colour of Suede Green. The Engine has been changed and uprated to 3.8 Ltrs and has been fully rebuilt. The Gearbox has been uprated to a all synchro mesh manual overdrive MK2 Gearbox. The prop shaft has been replaced, the rear axle has been rebuilt using a gripper power lock diff all new braking system upgraded including master cylinder and servo. The suspension has been completely overhauled, New Wire Wheels, New Pirelli Tyres and all the ancillary items under the bonnet have been renewed.

The car is fitted with a New Stainless-Steel Exhaust and fuel tank, all new fuel system and pipework. The car is almost unique in being totally rust free on the body.

The car has a new wiring harness battery and alternator. The steering has been upgraded to a power rack with pressure sensitive electronic pump thus hopefully making the car usable for many years to come.

The current owner has fitted a "BRANTZ" - International 2 Pro, V2 Timer - Rally meter along with Schroth Profi 3x2 Harnesses to comply as a rally entrant. Along with New period bucket seats and period map light, the vehicle has also been fitted with Koni Shocker Absorbers (Adjustable) and up-rated Coombs front springs.

This vehicle provides a truly unique opportunity to own a beautifully restored ‘fast road’ Jaguar MkI with rally entry upgrades.
