The essentials

A remarkable Sunbeam Tiger Mk 1A, finished in iconic red/white, with black leather interior; this vehicle has recently undergone a thorough refurbishment.

The Tiger Mk 1A was originally shipped to American dealer Freed Motor Co. of Salt Lake City and delivered to their customer Louis V Olsen in January 1966.  The car remained in original ownership until 1989 when the son of Karl Foulkes-Halbard VSCC (Filching Manor Motor Museum,) bought the car and shipped it back to the UK.  The car was fully equipped for continental rallying and competed in, on average, 2-3 events per year from 1993 to 2008, including track time at Le Mans, Hockenheim, Zandoft, Spa, Nurnberg and Monza.

The current and third owner of the Tiger purchased the car in July 1991 with 28,301 miles showing and has owned it for the past 27 years.  In 2003, a brand new sports 302 V8 engine was installed, built and supplied by Sunbeam Supreme of Leicester.  This included a new clutch, water pump, EdzeBrook inlet manifold, starter and dynamo.  It was also fitted with a new electronic distributor.  Since 2008, the car has resided in a heated showroom.

In October 2017, the owner embarked upon a meticulous and comprehensive restoration, including a complete hydraulic overhaul, new callipers, front pads, rear wheel cylinders, clutch master cylinder and slave seals.  New larger radiator with Kenlow fan, ignition switch, heavy duty battery leads and isolator switch, new starter solenoid, five new Minilite alloy wheels with polished rim edge and new Vokohama tyres.

The Tiger has a new Holly carburetor with special cooling fans and new twin stainless steel sports exhaust.  The four speed gearbox was treated to a US supplied Hurst lifter gear change.  Originally equipped with the very low ratio rear axle, this has now been changed to the highest European limited slip Salisbury unit, which makes for pleasing cruising speeds.

The vehicle has been fitted with a new detachable hardtop, with new Lucas roof spotlight.  Other equipment includes:  rally style Lucas reverse lamp, front light bar with three 7" Lucas rally lamps, map light and storage shelf, speedo driven Terratrip Rally computer, new leather seats, full wide red seat harnesses, original reel belts, twin fuel pumps compartment with antitheft lock, Motalita wood rimmed steering wheel, comp springs, adjustable telescopic shock absorbers front and rear, rear anti-tramp bars, good hood and tonneau cover, sound deadening felt kit, new carpet set, bonnet 'props' to aid cooling, complete spares kit and manual.

This car has covered only 3,400 miles since the new engine was fitted (at 52,300 miles) and it has never been accident damaged.  Prepared to an excellent standard and recently wax oiled, this vehicle has been fully inspected and is 'Sayer-approved.'
